Wide-Ribbed Rubber Rolls

Fluted rubber matting is rubber sheet with parallel raised ribs, also called ribbed or corrugated matting. The ribs channel water and dirt along their length and give grip across them. It is sold here in wide and fine rib profiles, in rolls cut to length.

Choose wide ribbed rubber where water, mud or straw need to run off, such as in vans, trailers and outdoor sheds. Choose fine ribbed rubber where people walk and trolleys roll, such as corridors and workshops, as it feels smoother and is easier to sweep.

Lay ribbed matting with the ribs running towards the exit or drain, so water flows along the channels and out. In a van, that usually means ribs running from the bulkhead to the back doors. On a walkway, ribs across the route give the most grip.

Yes, wide ribbed rubber is a popular van floor because it grips loads and lets water and dirt run out of the back doors. The 2m wide roll covers many panel vans in one piece. A 5mm ribbed sheet adds cushioning for heavier loads.

Ribbed matting holds dirt in the grooves, but because the grooves run in one direction, it sweeps clean easily along the ribs. Fine ribbed rolls are the easiest to keep clean. Hose wide ribbed matting down and brush along the ribs for a deeper clean.

The wide ribbed rolls here come 3mm and 4.5mm thick, and the broad ribbed sheet is 5mm. Thinner rolls are lighter and easier to cut, while 5mm adds cushioning and wears longer under heavy use. Fine ribbed rolls are also available for a lower profile.

Ribbed matting is often used on ramps, trailer floors and sheds, where its grooves help shed water. Fix it firmly outdoors so wind and traffic do not move it. Lay it with the ribs running downhill on a slope so rain drains away.

Cutting along a rib gives the straightest line, as the rib acts as a guide. For cuts across the ribs, use a long straight edge and a sharp utility knife in several passes. Mark the cut line with chalk first.

Ribbed rubber laid with the ribs across the ramp gives feet and hooves something to push against when walking up. It must be fixed firmly so it cannot slide. For horse and livestock ramps, dedicated ramp mats are also available in trailer flooring.

The widest ribbed rolls here are 2m. For wider floors, lay two lengths side by side with the ribs lined up, and fix the seam with tape or adhesive. Matching the rib direction makes the join less visible.
