Office Flooring

Rubber flooring suits offices that get heavier use, such as site cabins, warehouse offices and offices next to a workshop, because it is tough and easy to clean. In a quiet carpeted office, rubber is more often used underneath the carpet as an underlay, where it reduces footstep noise.

Industrial office flooring is flooring for offices inside or beside industrial premises, such as site cabins, warehouse offices and transport depots. These rooms see boots, dirt and trolleys, so a tough, sweepable floor such as a rubber roll is often chosen over carpet. The 3mm 1 bar checker roll here is sold for offices, workshops and garages.

Office chairs roll on a firm, thin rubber roll, though more slowly than on a hard floor. Thicker, cushioned rubber makes castors drag. Under a desk where the chair moves all day, a firm surface or a chair mat keeps the chair moving freely.

Yes, rubber underlay under carpet reduces impact noise, such as footsteps and dropped items, reaching the floor below. The sound proof carpet underlay here is a plain rubber sheet in 3mm and 5mm thickness, with 1.5m and 1.8m widths. It will not stop voices or music carrying through walls.

The 1 bar checker rubber roll comes 1m, 1.2m and 1.5m wide, and 3mm thick. Lengths are sold by the metre, so you can order the length of the room. For a wider office, two lengths laid side by side cover the floor.

Yes, a rubber roll is a common floor for site cabins and portable buildings, because it protects the floor from boots, dirt and water. Cut the roll to fit the room and fix the edges with tape at the door so it does not lift. The 3mm checker roll is light enough to fit without special tools.

A thin rubber roll can go over low, tightly woven carpet tiles, but it may move and ripple on a deep carpet. For a firm, lasting result, lift the carpet and lay the rubber on the floor below. Rubber underlay, by contrast, goes under new carpet when it is fitted.

Yes, a loose-laid rubber roll can go over an office floor with cable runs or floor boxes, and can be lifted when someone needs access. Cut neat openings for floor boxes with a sharp knife. Avoid gluing the roll down over access panels, so they can still be opened.

Rubber flooring suits a home office in a garage, garden room or outbuilding, where the floor is concrete or boards and needs protecting. In a home office inside the house, rubber underlay under carpet is the more common use. Either way, a chair mat under the desk protects the floor from castors.

In a small office, a rubber roll can be laid loose with double-sided tape along the edges and at the door. In busy offices with trolleys or chairs rolling across it, gluing the roll down with flooring adhesive stops it moving or rippling. Clean the floor well before fixing.
