Safety flooring is about the hazards on a floor: wet patches, uneven ground, dropped loads and trip edges. This collection covers rubber rolls with coin, checker and ribbed tops, mats with drainage holes, interlocking tiles with edging pieces, and 22mm rubber grass mats for outside.

Choosing for the hazard

Where water or spills are the problem, mats and tiles with open holes keep liquid off the walking surface. On dry floors, a raised coin or checker pattern gives more grip than smooth rubber. Where heavy items fall, mats of 12mm to 22mm absorb the impact before it reaches the floor, a common need in workshop flooring.

For outdoor rubber safety flooring, rubber grass mats in 1m x 1.5m x 22mm let grass grow through, which keeps gateways, paths and play areas from turning to mud. Tiled areas indoors can be finished with edging strips so there is no raised edge to catch a foot.

Safety flooring sits within workplace flooring. For production floors and heavy plant, industrial flooring looks at load and impact in more depth.
