Rugs at Welcome Step are made for the rooms people use every day: living rooms, lounges, bedrooms, hallways and kitchens. Most are polypropylene, in flat weave, medium-pile and 5cm shaggy constructions, with sizes from small bedside rugs to 240 x 340cm.
Three ways to choose
If you already have a look in mind, modern designer rugs bring together patterned, carved, striped and shaggy styles. Within them, a textured rug adds depth in a single colour, and neutral rugs in cream, beige and brown sit easily with most interiors.
Eco-friendly rugs start from the material instead, covering natural fibres such as jute, coir and sisal, along with rugs for bathrooms and patios. For spaces that take daily foot traffic, utility rugs group runners and mats for hallways, kitchens, boot rooms and entrances.
Getting the size right
For rugs for living room layouts, measure the seating area rather than the empty floor. A large rug of 160 x 230cm or 200 x 290cm lets the front legs of the sofa and chairs rest on it, which holds the group together. A small rug of 80 x 150cm or 120 x 170cm suits a reading chair or the side of a bed.
Bedroom rugs usually sit under the lower two-thirds of the bed, leaving rug showing on both sides where you step out. In narrow spaces, hallway rugs come as runners about 57–67cm wide and up to 230cm long.
Pile, material and grip
Flat weave sits low, so doors and chair legs pass over it easily. Pile of 10–14mm is soft but still easy to vacuum, while 5cm shaggy pile is the softest underfoot and best kept away from the busiest routes. The County and Geneva flat weaves and the Malmo 3D rug are described as suitable for patios, and more outdoor rugs sit in their own range.
On wood, laminate or tiles, an anti-slip rug grip stops a rug creeping. If you want the whole floor covered rather than a rug, fitted carpet is the better choice.
